Meet the Long Beach Team Behind Thistledown Insulation Long Beach

When you book an insulation job with us, you’re not getting a random subcontractor or a rotating cast of day laborers. You’re getting a small, steady crew that knows Long Beach attics from Naples to Bixby Knolls. We’re an independently owned Cedarwell location, which means our people are hired locally, trained on the same eight brand lines we install, and held to one standard on every single visit. Shoe covers on. Drop cloths down. Written price in your hand before anyone opens the attic hatch. That consistency comes from the people, and these are the people.

Our People

Neil Barron, Owner

Neil founded Thistledown Insulation Long Beach in 2003 after years of watching other insulation crews rush attics and leave homeowners with a mess and a vague invoice. He still walks every estimate personally when his schedule allows, and he’s the one who reads the final clean-up photo before any job is marked complete. Neil writes the way he talks on a job site: steady, specific, no filler. Ask him about attic heat in August and he’ll mention that a 1,200-square-foot attic on the east side of Long Beach can hit 150 degrees before noon, then tell you exactly which Owens Corning batt density fixes it. You may not meet Neil on every project, but you’ll hear his standard when any crew member explains the price before the work begins.

Mike R., Lead Technician

Mike has been installing attic insulation with the Cedarwell family since 2015, and his specialty is tight attic hatches and unconditioned garage ceilings where air leaks hide. He’s our lead on Owens Corning blown-in and Knauf batt installations, and he’s the one most likely to pull a soffit baffle photo out to show you why your old fiberglass settled from R-30 to R-19 after two decades. Mike runs the job site like it’s his own home: his drop cloths go down before his tool bag does. When he’s not in an attic, he’s usually at El Dorado Park with his two kids. Don’t let the quiet demeanor fool you, the man can talk venting baffles for thirty minutes straight.

Danielle S., Senior Installer

Danielle came to Thistledown in 2018 after six years doing weatherization work across Southern California. Her specialty is spray foam insulation, particularly closed-cell applications on rim joists and older Long Beach homes with uneven framing. Soft and flexible is not a phrase we use around Danielle as a compliment, but she will tell you exactly when open-cell makes more sense than closed-cell for a specific ceiling assembly. Danielle is our resident John’s Manville and Demilec expert, and she’s known for noticing the small stuff: a utility knife left out, a corner of drop cloth flipped up near the hallway, a pet gate that needs to go back in place before we leave. Her standard line: ask before you move anything that belongs to the family.

Oscar T., Service Coordinator

Oscar is the voice on the phone when you call (562) 471-3972 at 7 a.m. or 11 p.m. He has worked in logistics for Long Beach businesses since 2011, and he’s been with us since 2021. Oscar builds the schedule around your availability and keeps the day moving when a material delivery runs behind. He is also the one who confirms the written price with you before the crew arrives, so there are no surprises at the front door. Outside work, Oscar volunteers with a youth soccer league in North Long Beach. He’s not the one squinting at your rafters, but he’s the reason the job runs on time and the estimate you see matches the invoice you sign.

Elena M., Apprentice Installer

Elena joined our team in early 2025 after completing her building performance training through a Los Angeles County trade program focused on energy efficiency. She works alongside Mike and Danielle, learning air sealing and blow-in techniques across all eight brand lines we install, with a particular interest in Rockwool’s fire resistance properties. Elena is the one who handles the final clean-up checklist: photo of the attic hatch area, floors swept, drop cloths folded, shoe covers disposed. She’s the easiest person on the crew to flag down for an extra question mid job, because she enjoys explaining what she’s doing. Elena grew up in the apartment district near Alamitos Beach and takes a little pride in working on homes in the neighborhoods where she rode her bike as a kid.

One Standard, Every Job

There’s a reason the Thistledown name doesn’t change job to job. Thistledown is the soft fluff of the thistle, one of nature’s lightest insulators. The name is a promise about how carefully we work. Our Cedarwell Care Promise applies to every visit, whether it’s Mike arriving solo for an attic inspection or a full crew handling a whole house. Shoe covers from the front door to the attic hatch. Drop cloths across the hallway and under the ladder base. A photo of the clean-up before we leave, sent to you, not just filed in a folder. And the eight brands we install, Owens Corning, Johns Manville, Knauf, Rockwool, CertainTeed, Icynene, Demilec, and GreenFiber, are matched to your attic and your household, including pet-safe product options where a choice exists. Every written price comes before any work starts, every single time, no exceptions. And if something isn’t done right, our 365-Day Done Right Promise means we make it right. That’s not a sales pitch. It’s how we’ve operated in Long Beach since 2003.
